Bangkok’s Best Guest Houses
Mon 2 Mar 2009
You may have noticed that I don’t cover much of the, shall we say, ‘low end’ of the travel market. It’s not that I have anything against the backpacker set, it’s just not my thang. Plus, there’s the fact that so many other people already cover that market so well. Primary case in point is TravelFish. If you want to go anywhere in Southeast Asia on a budget, this is the site you want to check out – but come back to Asia for Visitors to find out what to see and do!
The main reason I’m bringing TravelFish to your attention is that they’ve just announced their 2009 list of the best Guest Houses in Bangkok. Even if you don’t consider yourself part of the backpacker set, you may still want to check out a few of these selections. They fit just as well in the ’boutique’ category as the ‘budget’ one.
Like myself, TravelFish also publishes small e-guides to several destinations. However, their guides are quite different from mine, and are complementary in fact. While my guides focus on providing detailed information for specific sights, or sight-seeing itineraries, the guides from TravelFish are packed full of information about where to stay, how to get around, where to eat, etc. Their guide to Phuket has recently been proclaimed "better than Lonely Planet’s" by a prominent local expert. If you’re the type that travels on a budget and doesn’t make advance reservations, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on the TravelFish guides. They may save you trying to find a guest house that’s been closed for two years.
