On taking my first stroll through the center of Candidasa on Bali’s east coast, I was struck by just how many restaurant options I had. There seem to be far more that the small number of hotels justified, but then this is an area where people tend to spend several nights, if not weeks, in one place. There are so many options, it’s difficult to choose, and I’m happy that I have several days here to explore. I chose Vincent’s for my first meal because it seemed to be one of the most popular places, and it had a menu that was a little different from the others on the main road.

Vincents Interior
The main dining room of Vincent’s in Candidasa, Bali

Vincent’s is a bar / lounge as well as a restaurant. From the street, you see only the lounge area, with its comfortable easy chairs and low tables. Behind this is the main dining area, where old-styled wooden table and chairs are surrounded by lemon-cream colored walls covered in pictures that recall the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Even further back is a large courtyard with garden seating.

The menu at Vincent’s is a distinctive collection of international selections that goes beyond the usual offerings of beach resort restaurants. For my first meal there, I had the beef and mushroom pie, which was quite tasty. Unfortunately, one of Bali’s all too common power outages hit just when I was served, so I was unable to take any decent pictures of the dish, so I returned on my last day to have an early lunch before leaving Candidasa.

Beef Sandwich

For lunch, I wanted something light, so I selected the beef sandwich special. This consisted of two small ‘steaks’, grilled and served on toasted bread with lettuce and tomato. It was a very simple meal, but quite delicious.

You can find additional information at Vincent’s web site.
